Netflix Users Spend Twice As Much Time On Site As Hulu Users

Maybe Netflix was right after all. No, not in the way they handled their price increase, but maybe in their logic for creating the increase in the first place. See, we’ve always assumed that Netflix’s price hike this summer was about setting the stage for streaming video as the primary service for the future

Nielsen Study Shows Video Streaming On Gaming Consoles Increased In 2011

This is absolutely no surprise whatsoever, but Nielsen measured the video streaming habits of game console users and came up with data that is pretty much expected: more video was watched on gaming consoles this year than ever before .  I think what is a bit surprising is that users of the Nintendo Wii spend more than double the time with online video than users of the Playstation 3 or Xbox.  Overall, video watching on consoles saw an uptick of 7 percent this year, thanks to the availability of your usual culprits Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, and the like. Nielsen’s Breakdown Of Video Streaming On Gaming Consoles Here’s Nielsen’s handy breakdown of what people are using gaming consoles for (just a few years ago it would have been 100% gaming, and this study would not exist): Although that Wii streaming is amazing, so are the Playstation and Xbox numbers.  These numbers will likely increase with more available streaming options.  For instance, Xbox just now got a YouTube app in beta, so those numbers will increase next year for that console.  I don’t think 30 percent video streaming usage is unreasonable to expect on gaming consoles for the next few years, maybe hover in the 20s.  Wherever the numbers end up for years to come, the fact that gaming consoles are significantly used for other media is remarkable. Over 200 Billion Monthly Online Video Views – October 2011 comScore Video Metrix

200 billion is a number that neither you nor I can actually picture.  We’ve never seen 200 billion of anything, just sitting in front of us where we could start counting it.  But together, people of the world, we watched over 200-freaking-billion online videos in the month of October.  I wonder if they’ll ever figure out a way to monetize this online video thing, right?  The global audience of people 15 and over (sorry, kids) amounts to 1.2 billion unique viewers in the entire world.  That’s like, a seventh of the entire world population.  When YouTube finally discovers a way to reach remote jungle villages, it’ll be more. The Comscore Graphs Are Getting Heavy Of those 200 billion videos, almost 90 billion come from YouTube watching: What I find interesting in the next graph is that Canadians actually watch more videos than their U.S

October 2011 Sets Video Viewing Record With 21.1 Hours Per Viewer

I pulled out the video advertising and put it into its own article but I still wanted to talk about the rest of the stats that came out of comScore for last month. Like the 21.1 hours per viewer and the 42.6 billion videos both of which set an all time high, along with more than 7.4 billion video ads I’m sure. It seems like October was certainly a month for video viewers
