Google+ Reaches 50 Million Users

Last Tuesday, the Google Blog announced that Google+, which had been “invitation only,” was changing to “open access.” According to data from Experian Hitwise, since Google+ made the service publically available, Google has seen a 1269% increase in traffic to the social networking site. In the week following its public launch, Google+ increased to 15 million US visitors and increased its ranking to the 8 th most visited social networking site. However, during the same time period, Facebook continued to dominate Google+ with well over 1.7 billion visits.

Google+ Seeing Increased Mainstream Adoption

Google+ has only been around for six-and-a-half weeks, but has already earned the title of the fastest growing website. Some have written off Google’s success as a temporary side-effect of the Google brand, but recent HitWise data shows that Plus is already heading into the “early adopters” stage. Plus’s User-Base Transformation The chart above shows how Google’s user-base has changed since HitWise started tracking demographics (July 9th, approximately two weeks after launch).

Relax, People, Bing Isn’t Overtaking Google Anytime Soon

New data this week from Hitwise shows Bing on a pretty impressive upswing in the search engine market share race. And while that’s definitely something worth pointing out and taking notice of, it’s not really earth-shattering. It’s definitely not a sign that Bing is about to overtake Google in the search marketplace, even though that’s exactly what Mashable seems to think
