YouTube Looking To Jump From 200,000 To 7 Million YouTube Advertisers

YouTube has 200,000 advertisers per quarter, but with the new original channels beginning in January of next year, they’re looking to attract 6 or 7 million YouTube advertisers as they launch around 100 total in 2012.  According to this Beet.TV interview with Lucas Watson , YouTube’s VP for Global Sales, the ability to advertise around premium brands will be attractive to new advertisers.  YouTube, which reaches 800 million people around the world per month, is preparing for a ubiquitous presence on all devices that are capable of running online video. YouTube Aiming High to Get the Most Out of Their Global Reach What isn’t being said here is that a lot of these advertisers have been skittish about having their brands associated with some of the content on YouTube.  Businesses looking to keep an eye out on their image don’t want to be associated with content that is controversial, and I’m pretty sure this is one of the reasons why YouTube decided to pay a bunch of Hollywood producers to create content for them.  They were probably getting frustrated with so much potential advertising dollars escaping their grasp.  When the original channels arrive, it will generally be populated with trusted entities, something the major networks have with their programs.

Ballet Still Beautiful, Boring After Hulu’s Latest Day in the Life

Morgan Spurlock’s “Day in the Life” has always been a good idea, the thought that we might to get to see some interesting people during one of their normal days is captivating.  However, it seems that there are too many limitations to the form.  I imagine the biggest challenge for Spurlock during the filming of this documentary series has been locking down interesting celebrities/performers and locking down a good day to film them.  And it seems like most of the days it might be good to film one of these people is when there isn’t much going on.  One day doesn’t give you much time to explore a person, and the series suffers because of it. I think Spurlock’s best bet, if it were possible, would have been to follow a person around for one month and then pick the best day out of that group.  That might have been too much to ask, though

How to Use Online Video to Become “The” Celebrity Within Your Industry

Businesses spend millions of dollars to have celebrities make appearances in their commercials and Web videos. Just think about the ads that feature William Shatner as “The Priceline Negotiator” or Jennifer Lopez’s notorious commercial for Gillette “Venus” razors. Companies pay a pretty penny to secure celebrities in their videos, but is it really necessary to roll out the red carpet to have a successful video campaign
