The Week’s Best Viral Videos & Video Marketing Lessons – Silverback Edition

The first week of 2012 proved to be a strong one in the world of online video, as the new year did nothing to slow down the clever brands and amateurs piling up the views with creative videos. This week we have a few bloopers that captured viewers’ attention, some branded social video campaigns, a collection of repurposed video and collages, and a bit of a wild card category called Party Mix–which just so happens to contain my favorite video of the week. Let’s get on with the videos, shall we

The Dark Knight Rises Occupies Wall Street And YouTube

Christopher Nolan has always been notoriously tight-lipped about his productions, and I think if it were up to him, he’d much rather not even come out with a trailer for a movie as big as The Dark Knight Rises , his hugely anticipated new Batman release arriving July 20 next year.  Nolan knows that surprise is a nice luxury to have when someone first watches a movie.  The less you know, the better the ability of the filmmaker to entertain.  I’m not sure what Nolan thinks about all this amateur footage being shot around Wall Street.  For all I know, some of these people are planted to take video that looks amateurish, like it’s something we shouldn’t be seeing, but still obscure enough that we don’t know exactly what’s happening, and the studio pretends that they never wanted the publicity. The Dark Knight Rises Is All Over YouTube Recently, a video heavy on cool vehicles, a glimpse at Catwoman, and a battle raging on the streets hit YouTube: That’s got some cool stuff in it, but having no context, it doesn’t ruin anything.  No spoilers!  But you know, it’s not the only Dark Knight Rises video.  You can weed through all sorts of cool stuff from the production of this movie.  You can even see Batman fight Bane, which I’m shocked doesn’t have more than a million views right now: This video gives you a peek into how huge this production is.  Yeah, it’s your everyday, run-of-the-mill, full-scale riot on Wall Street, but it spans a great deal of real estate: Click here to watch the video. This is just a sampling of what’s out there.  You could spend a lot of time watching the Dark Knight Rises production on YouTube right now.  Isn’t the age of online video great?
