Today I hoped to be playing with a new Galaxy Nexus phone from Verizon. Sadly, it was not to be. That’s good news for you, though, because it means I actually had time to do my job and gather a list of great viral videos for you to enjoy

I need to take a few minutes and give some love to Hyundai. The car company has embraced online video in ways most brands haven’t dreamed, and they’ve almost sort of become a champion for the scores of YouTube creators hoping for a shot at fame

Christopher Nolan has always been notoriously tight-lipped about his productions, and I think if it were up to him, he’d much rather not even come out with a trailer for a movie as big as The Dark Knight Rises , his hugely anticipated new Batman release arriving July 20 next year. Nolan knows that surprise is a nice luxury to have when someone first watches a movie. The less you know, the better the ability of the filmmaker to entertain. I’m not sure what Nolan thinks about all this amateur footage being shot around Wall Street. For all I know, some of these people are planted to take video that looks amateurish, like it’s something we shouldn’t be seeing, but still obscure enough that we don’t know exactly what’s happening, and the studio pretends that they never wanted the publicity. The Dark Knight Rises Is All Over YouTube Recently, a video heavy on cool vehicles, a glimpse at Catwoman, and a battle raging on the streets hit YouTube: That’s got some cool stuff in it, but having no context, it doesn’t ruin anything. No spoilers! But you know, it’s not the only Dark Knight Rises video. You can weed through all sorts of cool stuff from the production of this movie. You can even see Batman fight Bane, which I’m shocked doesn’t have more than a million views right now: This video gives you a peek into how huge this production is. Yeah, it’s your everyday, run-of-the-mill, full-scale riot on Wall Street, but it spans a great deal of real estate: Click here to watch the video. This is just a sampling of what’s out there. You could spend a lot of time watching the Dark Knight Rises production on YouTube right now. Isn’t the age of online video great?

Pop culture. I’ve written a handful of times about how powerful the right pop culture reference can be in your online video marketing efforts. One of the best ways to get initial attention for your video is to include some kind of reference to a popular character, product, or story

There must be something in the water in France. Just a month after Evian’s record-breaking Roller Babies’ 26-month stay in the Global Arts Chart top 20 finally came to an end, a fantastic new commercial for another French mineral water brand, Contrex , pedalled its way to the top of the rankings.

The Top 20 Global Online Video Ads For October 2011
Something happened on the Global Ads Chart in September that has not happened in 26 months. Since being launched way back in July 2, 2009, Evian’s record-breaking Roller Babies ad has been a permanent fixture in the top 20 most shared commercials. That is until now. After 104 consecutive weeks at the top, last month finally saw the groundbreaking ad finally drop out of the top 20 to number 40. Of course, all good things must come to an end, and the commercial, part of the record-smashing Live Young campaign, has certainly enjoyed its fair share of success, winning countless awards and breaking records galore.

I’ve written many times about my love for The Muppets. I’m right in the perfect generation to be a fan–I remember watching and loving both the TV show and the three earliest films as I grew up. And over the past year or two, the new owner, Disney, has somehow found a way to breathe new life into the franchise, scoring numerous viral hits and rejuvenating the property. As you may be aware, there’s a brand new Muppets film headed for theaters this Thanksgiving

One of my favorite things about the world of online video, particularly viral video, is the unpredictability of it all. From one day to the next, you never know what kind of clip will be the next to show up and capture viewers’ attention. It could be another cute cat video, or it could be CNN anchor Anderson Cooper laughing uncontrollably while on the air
