The original channels are coming in fast now. Four new ones, all dedicated to the world of skating, surfing, skiing, biking, and all of the other ice, wind, gravity, and water sports you can think of have been announced by YouTube and they have an impressive list of celebrity extreme sports figures, led by Tony Hawk. Also included in this bunch is branded content specialists Red Bull, who will continue their branded series and specials that generally include the world of “action sports.” There certainly won’t be a lack of death-defying stunts on YouTube in 2012.

For Yahoo, the deal with Microsoft is the single most important part of the big picture business plan. With Microsoft now running the back-end of Yahoo’s search, not to mention the search advertisements, the alliance is a major opportunity for Yahoo to decrease the cost of operations. Meanwhile, because Yahoo is reimbursing Microsoft for transition costs and forking over 12 percent of the search ad revenue, the deal is also costly

Sometimes you can spin yourself into the ground trying to think of a great linkbait or widget idea. I’m talking hours in front of a white board, wearing out dry erase markers (ahhhh, the fumes!) and blurting out ideas until you’re hoarse. When you finally settle on an idea, you build it and after hours of painstaking research and development, you roll your shiny new toy out to the appropriate audiences via email/PR/social media/phone calls/carrier pigeon/skywriter and hope for the best. Sometimes you hit a home run, sometimes you hit a single, and sometimes you strike out. I’d like to tell you some sort of magical secret to making easy linkbait and widgets that will always turn into a winner with little to no effort every time, but I don’t have that magical secret. What I have is a story about how we developed a relatively simple linkbait/widget idea, the steps we took to make it, how we rolled it out, and the results. Hopefully this sparks some ideas in others that can turn into a healthy dose of links with minimal sweat equity.

www.searchenginejournal.com www.searchenginejournal.com/wp-admin www.searchenginejournal.com/wp-admin/post.php If you’ve worked in the SEO industry for any significant length of time, you’ve inevitably had a situation arise where a brand new site was being planned or an existing site was being overhauled and you were brought in to ensure the new (or new version) site would get SEO. And unless you have magic fairy dust at your beck and call, you have also had to deal with the fact that you were called in after the new site was already planned. Or more likely, the build was already taking place. Or worse, already done and in launch mode. Unfortunately this is the wrong time to be doing SEO, let alone performing an SEO audit . 1.

There are plenty of reasons to leave the major companies — Yahoo, Google, Microsoft — and pursue projects elsewhere. Recently, we’ve seen everything from the “I got let go” to the “It’s time for a change in scenery” excuse.

Ex-Googlers Create a Whale of an App
CES is just round the corner and I’ve got about a hundred emails all talking about how cool some new product is. Everything from a digital cooking thermometer and iPhone App (why someone would ever need that is beyond me) to real, freakin’ robots! But this one I got today sort of caught my attention for ReelSEO readers, it’s mgMedia and Samsung Movies Spain, a four screen (mobile, TV, PC and tablet) streaming video service. OK, so technically a tablet is a PC but it’s somewhere between a PC and a mobile in that some of them have features of both and so some classify them as a new screen, sure, let’s run with that for today
